| URODYNAMIC TESTING |
| Urology Associates provides urodynamic testing in the office. Urodynamic testing measures how your lower urinary tract works. It typically takes 45-60 minutes to complete and can be performed in the office. The tests generally are associated with minimal discomfort. Sedation is not used as the goal of the testing is to determine how the lower urinary tract functions while the patient is awake; like when you are at home or in public. The patient comes to the office with a full bladder and upon arrival; the bladder is emptied into a special toilet that measures how well you urinate and empty your bladder. Very small catheters and skin patches are then placed to connect your urinary tract to a computer. The patient watches the computer while your bladder is filled and emptied allowing you to see how your bladder and valve muscles work. In this way the doctor can determine whether the bladder is working correctly, whether the sphincter is working correctly and how well the two work together as a team. Results are immediately available to the patient along with different options for treatment of any problems identified. |
